One of three from the series „Gegen die Wand“
The woman remains anonymous – she is all women.
All genders, who must continually stand upright.
Her hair is carefully styled, floral patterns.
Tension between beauty and hardness, tenderness and rebellion.
It is about the ambivalence between societal expectations of women, who are supposed to constantly bloom, beautify, and delight, yet remain trapped, with their backs to the wall. The wall is not just a backdrop, but also a symbolic barrier, a recurring standstill.
Representing supposed progress that is repeatedly relativized by new forms of restriction.
It speaks about the ongoing necessity of feminist work, about the beautiful and the unfair, about progress and repetition. It says: The work is not over. It says: You must continue.
