Accompanying the AI film Coming from Pinklandia, Tanja Hirschfeld presented a series of small oil paintings that reference the porcelain figures appearing in the film. The figures seem childlike yet artificial — fragile hybrid beings somewhere between human, toy, and symbol. Their glossy surfaces and delicate colors stand in contrast to the weight of their subject matter.
They are child figures, representatives of a new generation growing into a system still shaped by control, perfection, and conformity. Their bodies bear traces, ornaments, cracks — hints of history, origin, and expectation.
The clay they seem to be modeled from appears partially melted, as if the solid form were beginning to dissolve. This moment of melting can be read as a hope for change — a subtle suggestion that what has solidified might soften, that the system might open, that something new could emerge.
They show that perfection can be learned, but authenticity can be passed on.
A generation that comes from Pinklandia — and perhaps has the strength to leave it.
